Training Tips for Hockey at Home on Synthetic Ice
Wanna improve your hockey skills at home? Your best bet will be purchasing hockey training aids. The first of these, synthetic ice, will allow you to skate and shoot as if you were in an actual ice rink (although it’ll be considerably warmer).
But, that’s not all. With the aid of a hockey shooting tarp, you can practice your shooting towards precise targets. A hockey tarp, like those found at Sniper’s Edge Hockey, lets you increase your accuracy, provided you use it. Obviously, you’ll need to run actual drills involving your training aids. Here are a few that you can use to improve your skills, with or without the aid of your hockey tarp.
Warm-Up
Before any kind of exercise or practice, it is always a good idea to warm up in order to avoid injury. Here are a few warm-up exercises you can start with:
- 50 Jumping Jacks
- 25 Push-Ups
- 10 Arm Circles Each Direction
- 5 Lateral Lunges Each Side
Have Plenty of Pucks
Having a nice sized pile of pucks to work with that are within reach can help to keep the flow of practice going smoothly. If you have 15 or 20 pucks right there ready to go you can practice your shots, or passing strategy over and over again without having to stop and chase the pucks in between exercises.
Stay Focused
Having a mind that does too many things at once gets exhausting. One of the keys to greatness is to focus on one thing at a time. This is one of the reasons why having a stack of pucks is important. If you are practicing to sharpen your shooting skills, focus mainly on the shot, or shots that you need to strengthen. Repetition is the key to perfection. If you focus on things you already know how to do, you won’t grow. However, if you remain focused on the things that are difficult and keep trying them, you get better.
Keep Moving
When you practice keep your body moving. This doesn’t mean that you need to continually run at full speed without any breaks. What it does mean is that if you keep your body in motion while training you won’t give it a chance to get cold and tense up during your exercises. If you remember to stay hydrated and keep your body loose it can help you stay healthier and keep your muscles from getting hurt by being too tense.
