Exploring Kalka
It was the winter vacation of my university and the exams had gotten over. Hence, there is nothing to do than either laying back or returning home, none of which piqued my interest. I called a friend of mine who was a day-scholar in my university and end up planning a sudden trip to Himachal Pradesh. A day later, we begin our journey from Dehradun ISBT to Delhi. It was a sudden plan so we decided to Book an affordable and comfortable Tempo Traveler in Chandigarh. The view on the entire way took my breath away. Since it was winter, with the December frost slowly settling in, it was quite chilly. We had the famous kachori at the age-old Diamond sweet shop. Thereafter, we resumed our journey for the next destination, Chandigarh.
It took us another 4 hours to reach Kalka. Once we reached, we were astounded with the sheer warmth of the welcome we received. It was quite late into the night and, quite tired from the long journey, we decided to begin our sightseeing plan the next morning. To say that it felt amazing waking up with the mesmerizing view of the mountain is a very big of an understatement. So, after a cup of good tea and a gigantic breakfast spread had warmed us to our bones, we set out to explore the land.
Witnessed Age-old history of Kali Mata temple
Kalka, a town in the Panchkula district of Haryana, is a delightful destination that lures visitors from different parts of the country. The name of this town is derived from the Hindu goddess Kali. The town is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas and is a gateway to the neighboring state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located on the national highway 22 that runs through. The place itself seemed suited to the spiritual wanderings of pilgrims. I had never set my eyes on an age old temple like the one we beheld. Every nook and cranny of the structure seemed to breathe out serenity and mystique. People had to wait in a queue to catch a glimpse of the Mata. We spent some moments there and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the age old temple, our minds engaged in making prayers and wishes of our own.
Beautiful scenic view of Timber Trail Parwanoo
Timbre trail is a popular attraction among tourists and is located at the foothills of Shivalik ranges in Parwanoo which is near to Kalka on the Shimla national highway. The timber trail lies between two hills, connected by a cable car that covers a total distance of 1.8 Km at a height of 5000 feet above sea level. We enjoyed the panoramic views of valleys with the Kausalya River flowing below as the cable car swung us away and into the arms of the waiting hills.
The cable car took us to the timber trail resort for a delicious meal. Sitting atop the hills and with a view of the entire landscape, the flavors of platters full of good food held us in ecstasy.
Childhood memories recalled at Pinjore Garden
Pinjore garden is also known as Yadvinder garden and is one of the most popular destinations among the people visiting that area. It’s a historical place where you can spend your time in leisure and in peace. The Pinjore Garden was made by Mughals in the seventeenth century. It was renamed as Yadvinder garden in the memory of Maharaja Yadvinder Singh. The garden was maintained and restored to its former glory by him after years of being ignored.
The Pinjore garden has been laid in seven terraces. The first gate of the garden opens into the first terrace that was built in a Rajasthani Mughal style and is also known as Sish mahal. Sitting amongst the motley of hues, you must try the traditional kulfi that is on offer here. The second terrace is known as Rang Mahal. The third terrace displays emerald trees and a flower bed. The next terrace is one surrounded by fountains. The lowermost terrace has an open-air theatre, which is designed in a disk-like structure. The place breathes age-old romance and tells of the unfolding of love stories like no other.
But all good things must come to an end. So, with a heavy heart and heavier sighs, we bade Kalka goodbye. We went on to book a reliable Chandigarh to Delhi Taxi. The drive back was bittersweet, for while we were sad to leave Kalka and its delectable kulfi behind, our driver sang us old tunes the entire way back, letting us relive the memories of childhood, and, maybe, just maybe, telling us that we will one day find our way back.
