Must Have Tech for the Remote Worker

This year is certainly set to be very different for many of us who have made the more permanent shift to remote working, but could also start to provide a huge number of opportunities to those who are able to make the change as more opportunities present themselves – one of the biggest has already become apparent as new options for remote working visas have become more available to many different countries across the world, and as a huge shift happens for digital nomads as this serves as a good resource to explore the potential opportunities, there will also be a growing reliance on tech to make this happen. But what are the must haves to be considered, and what could improve your quality of life the most?

Reliable and lightweight devices – Your mobile device and your laptop will be your main workstations when working remotely, particularly whilst travelling, so it’s important to ensure  that whatever you choose is up to the job – there’s a huge number of different choices out there, each with their own pros and cons, but something you should certainly be looking for is something that’s both lightweight and reliable. You’ll be travelling with it, so something too cumbersome and bulky could become frustrating, or even slow your options for travel down, similarly you don’t want anything to go wrong with your device that you can’t quickly diagnose or fix yourself and finding something easily repairable is key too. Given you’ll spend all your time working on these devices too, it’s important to choose something that fits your style of working and can be used throughout your time travelling.

Don’t forget your tech peripherals too – The devices themselves are only one small part of the requirement too, as you’ll need a bunch of different peripherals to make your remote working experience better too – things like a good webcam and microphone will certainly lead to a better experience for  the video calls and meetings, and even things like a compact keyboard can help make the day to day more bearable too over time. The same rules will apply of keeping lightweight and reliable, but there’s certainly plenty of extra to be considered in the same space.

The optional extras too – There are plenty of quality-of-life extras too – things like external battery packs and devices that can help extend Wi-Fi range or quality too – these may be something you’ll have to be a little more cautious with, particularly with power banks as there are some restrictions when travelling with certain sizes, but can certainly help in a pinch if you’re unable to get to a public location which seems a common issue right now.

These are just a few of the options too and there are certainly of plenty of others to be considered with a lot of resources out there to help on your way, and to help ensure you get your best possible experience whilst working remotely.
