When too much paint is applied on the walls whether using a roller, brush or spray, it is highly likely that paint sags will be seen. You can tell when this happens by looking at the walls if the paint seems like its drooping in a horizontal line, then this is paint sag. There are various ways that this can be prevented.

Preventing Sagging When Rolling

Although it is important that you get the excess paint off the roller, it is also important that you use the right painting technique. If you have back rolled in the pan but you still get paint sag, you should back roll on that spot where you have just painted.

Skilled painters recommend that one should paint in V or I pattern to ensure that the outcome is smooth and even. By doing this, you know that you will not be dealing with paint accumulation.

Prevent Sags When Spraying

During spraying, it is easy to experience paint sags. It’s easy to over apply. Just like during rolling, this mistake can be avoided and corrected as soon as it is realized. To have the walls painted evenly, it’s advisable that you use a roller to back roll. A sponge will also come in handy in such cases.

Prevent Sagging when Using a Brush

As you use a brush, you should avoid too much paint. If the paint is thinly applied, it leads to sagging but this can be prevented as well. Although back brushing works effectively in applying the right amount of paint, you can prevent the sagging by tapping the brush or shaking it inside the container just to remove the excess paint.

Other Reasons that Could Lead to Paint Sagging

Apart from poor paint application, not preparing the surface well could lead this. The problem becomes worse when the surface is slippery because the paint will end up dripping. For this reason, the surface should be well prepared and a primer applied on it.

When painting your house and you end up having paint sag, it can be corrected especially when it is realized on time. It is important that you just apply the right amount of paint to avoid this. Avoid thin coats but then again you should not apply too little. Whether you are using a brush, a roller or you are spraying, ensure that you use the right techniques to prevent this problem.
