Betting on Online Sports: What to Know

Online sporting events whether through esports directly or through slight variations of normal sporting events have become incredibly popular over the past decade and this year in particular, it seems for many there is certainly a strong future in online sporting events but with so many different titles out there and so much variation in what to expect, what should you know about betting in online sports?

The sites available to you – The first step is to find a site that offers you all of the betting opportunities you need – many of the big names are starting to come more on board with esports as a whole but may miss out some of the more niche events that catch your eye – there has also been a lot of change in the online space to slow the growth of online gambling through platforms such as Gamstop or bans on credit card betting in countries such as the UK – there are a growing number of sites not blocked by Gamstop becoming available however, and so it may just be a little shopping around to find one that offers everything you need.

The games to bet on – The biggest in the esports scene are certainly within Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and DotA2 but these may not offer you the best odds, particularly for your interests. If you’re looking for familiarity, then there are offerings in games like FIFA and NBA as they develop their own esports scene, but there are a growing number of small and more niche titles that can certainly provide a lot more excitement to bet on. You may need to look around a little, and investigate what peaks your interest the most, but there’s a huge amount of variety and you’ll certainly be able to find the game made for you.

A shift for traditional sporting – Whilst esports and other online activities are finding their platform, more traditional options are now seemingly becoming more digital – different streaming platforms have been picking up the rights to show these games online and there’s not as big a requirement to have sports packages on cable as there once was, whilst your favourite may not yet be available it’s likely a sure-fire bet that within the next year or two it will be, a little patience will be key but it may not be long at all until you’re able to access all of your favourite sporting events whether more traditional or based online in the future.

Most of the online betting scene for online sports is currently through passion – whilst there’s a lot of data to support what to bet on and where to look, there’s still a lot of uncertainty around the younger sports too – the best tip many would offer is to simply enjoy what you’re watching, there’s a lot of enjoyment to be found in something new with a lot of nuance to it, and the betting side will grow just as large in time as it is already climbing at a rapid rate.
